JINJER CONCERT REVIEW MARQUEE THEATER 12-12-21

Jinjer-Tatiana “Tati” Shmailyuk

The Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ hosted a night of kick ass metal on 12-12-21, with three bands scheduled; Jinjer, Suicide Silence and All Hail The Yeti. Unfortunately, the opening band All Hail The Yeti couldn’t make the show due to a vehicle breakdown after their show the night before in New Mexico. Many fans at the Marquee that I spoke to were in high anticipation for All Hail The Yeti and were subsequently seriously bummed that the band couldn’t play but glad that they were safe! We are definitely looking forward to the return of AHTY!

Suicide Silence hit the stage about 15 minutes early considering the absence of AHTY which was really great considering that everyone was getting really antsy! Suicide Silence are a deathcore style band that are known for setting an audience off into raging circle pits; and tonight was no exception! As soon as things got under way, the circle pit swirled and the crowd surfing began. Most everyone in attendance knew the band’s material and anyone who didn’t, soon found themselves head banging and engaging with the rest of the audience in the band’s metal assault. For the song Fuck Everything, singer Hernan Hermida had everyone throwing up their middle finger in the air and joining in on the vocal chant; Fuck Everything! This is a band that takes no prisoners and gets everyone in the audience involved with what the band is throwing down. So, if you like your metal fucking heavy, loud and your circle pit consuming the entire floor, then this is your band: check these guys out and let your metal flag fly!

Jinjer
hosted their long awaited return to Arizona at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ on 12-12-21, in support of their latest LP, Wildflowers. On this evening, the capacity crowd was in high anticipation to hear the latest material from the band’s 2021 release, and the band unleashed 8 new songs in their 16 song set from their new Wildflowers LP. Jinjer has been riding on a wave of success from their 2019 release, Macro, and now with the release of their Wildflowers LP, that wave of success is on the verge of becoming a tidal wave. While, the band’s 2021 release, Wildflowers may seem to be a continuation of their Macro LP, if you dig a little deeper, – upon closer examination, you will hear subtle vocal and musical differences that could make Wildflowers a collection of what could be the band’s best material to date. Singer Tatiana “Tati” Shmailyuk delivers some of her best vocal performances ever recorded and the band musically is also fully exploring the possibilities of their progressive groove metal style. On this night, the band came out of the gate with Call Me a Symbol from their Wildflowers LP, a song that has bad ass tuned down guitars and vocals that soar over the top of the band’s progressive music.

Jinjer’s LPs Wildflowers and Macro comprised most of their set list with the last five songs of the set pulled from the new Wildflowers LP. One of the highlights was technically the last song of this tour with a Happy Birthday wish to drummer Vladislav Ulasevich. Vlad was presented with a birthday cake on stage by their crew, while singer Tatiana engaged the entire Marquee Theater into a chorus of singing Happy Birthday to Vlad; this was a really great party and finale to close out this tour. If this band’s trajectory continues on it’s present course, Jinjer‘ could find themselves playing to much larger audiences in bigger and better venues at a much higher ticket price, so be sure to catch this band when they return to your area before ticket prices are out of sight!
